About Designer Wes Jenkins
Wes Jenkins began working at Disney in 2017 as a technical designer for the Disney Parks Costuming organization. Since then, he has moved into Global Product Creation as an apparel designer.
Wes dedicates this Princess Merida doll to the memory of his grandma Martha. The first redhead he knew, she was headstrong, opinionated, compassionate, and his greatest supporter. She taught Wes to sew when he was four years old (about the same age Merida took up her bow). An artistic child, Wes was different from his peers and had no interest in upholding the status quo, like Merida. Sometimes it is necessary to break with tradition to find your own path. When Wes’s grandpa died in 1998, he made his grandma a Christmas angel using a fashion doll and fabric he had around. It was something he would go on to do for her every Christmas, and after twenty years, she had quite the collection.
Designing this Princess Merida doll allowed Wes to dedicate something special to his grandma, showcase the design skills he’s been practicing for over 20 years, and inspire others to pursue their dreams and change their fate.
